Each of the Choir's four levels have their own age specific musical and vocal training tasks, as part of the Mädchenchor's objective of being a “Choir and Singing School”. The most important element to note is that the main purpose of the first three levels is not just to train and prepare for the concert choir; nor is the only aim of the concert choir, despite being the final stage, simply to give superb concerts.
Ludwig Rutt and Gudrun Schröfel, the music academics who have responsibly handled the Choir's direction, always regarded their work as having a primarily artistically educational intention. This is expressed, for instance, in the Choir's internal workshops and recitals, where young singers can practise their skills in solo pieces, duets, but also in small scenes and ensembles. The main goal is to cultivate soloist skills, but without breeding defined expectations of a solo career.
The Choir lives by the motto “Teaching music through music”, which implies far more than the usual well-meant aims of a music school. Challenging works are interpreted sensitively, but also self-confidently, without falling into stereotypical tendencies, thereby fulfilling and proving this motto.
It's certainly because of these principles that many of the singers remain involved with music after leaving the Choir: Some choose to study

it, others remain closely linked to it for the rest of their lives (the majority of the girls can play an instrument), singing in choirs, or else becoming knowledgeable concertgoers – all of them stay active in music life.
For many young women emerging from the Mädchenchor, a new chapter of choral activity opens with joining the
Johannes-Brahms-Chor, whose outstandingly homogenous timbre the long standing vocal experience of the female voices is perfectly laying the foundations for.
