Ludwig Rutt

Ludwig Rutt was Musical Director of the Mädchenchor Hannover from 1952 to 1999.
After studying at the former Hanover Academy of Music and Drama, graduating with degrees in Piano, Composition and Conducting, he participated in the shaping of Hanover's choir scene over five decades.
At one time, he was choir leader of eight choirs simultaneously, including the Academic Choir of the Technical University of Hanover. In addition, he was a music pedagogue at a high school and a piano teacher back at the Hanover University of Music and Drama.
He placed special dedication upon the Mädchenchor Hannover, for whom he acted as conductor for 47 years. Concert tours led him and the Choir all across Europe, to Russia, Japan, and North and South America. Their numerous victories at national and international competitions, frequent radio broadcasts and CD recordings, attest to the success of this era that made the Choir a renowned top level choir in professional circles.
Over the course of the decades, more than 1000 choir members sang under Ludwig Rutt's conductorship. In January 1999, the Mädchenchor Hannover was handed over to his long-serving colleague Prof. Gudrun Schröfel. Ludwig Rutt ended his role as Musical Director in December 2001 and was appointed Honorary Choir Leader.
He was decorated with, amongst others, the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the
Federal Republic of Germany (1977), the Honorary Citizenship of the Hanover University (1989) and the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of Lower Saxony (1998).

Ludwig Rutt: An obituary by the Mädchenchor Hannover
"How blessed are the dead, that is, those who die in the Lord from now on! Yes, says the Spirit. Let them rest from their labours, for their actions follow them.”
(Revelation 14:13b)

The Mädchenchor Hannover is in grief over the loss of Ludwig Rutt, its founder and long-serving conductor, fatherly friend and wonderful person. He led the Choir with great artistic competence to the international reputation it now holds. With empathy, modesty, tolerance and understanding for every single singer, his serious yet humorous approach to rehearsals made him a respected, but also much-loved Choir Director, who will remain in the hearts of all those who knew him.
The musical director, the current and former choir singers, the artistic staff, the management board, the Circle of Friends and the organisation of the Mädchenchor Hannover will all continue his legacy, for his works will always follow him.
