Junior Level

Girls aged 9 and over who want to become members of the Mädchenchor and have successfully passed the entrance audition - as well as those moving up from the Basic Level - enter the Junior Level. This second level of the Choir School usually consists of 20-30 girls, who are taught for a total of 2 1/2 hours a week over two separate sessions, working in different sized groups depending on the different learning content.

Choral vocal training for the entire group imparts the basic techniques of singing; simple compositions and canons in two or three voices are designed to lead the girls toward the later choir work.

In addition, training in aural skills and musical fundamentals is provided in smaller groups no larger than ten girls. The main aim of this is establishing an assurance in recognising and singing intervals and in controlling voice intonation, as well as establishing an awareness of simple rhythmic structures which form the basis for sight-reading. Just as in the Basic Level, the transformation of sound into movement also plays an important role in the Junior Level.
