It is in the Youth Choir that a young singer, graduating from the Junior Level or newly joining the Choir, will first encounter real choir work, singing in a larger group of about 40 or 50 girls aged between 10-14.

The Youth Choir rehearses twice a week for two hours at a time, with frequent voice training in small groups, to introduce the girls to the demanding and skilful life of a semi-professional choir. This also implies learning and mastering choral literature up to a medium level of difficulty, though always in respect to the performing abilities of the youngsters. The workload is sometimes extended with pieces from the repertoire of the Concert Choir, to anticipate and prepare for later challenges.

With frequent small local concert obligations, such as taking part in church services, festive events, choir meetings and joint concerts with other children's choirs, the young singers get a taste of reproducing on stage what they have acquired in the rehearsals. A special highlight has been their participation in big choral compositions requiring children's voices, such as the “War Requiem” of Benjamin Britten, “St Matthew Passion” from Johann Sebastian Bach, Gustav Mahler's “Symphony No. 3” or “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff.

The time a singer remains in the Youth Choir for is not specific. At certain times, the more advanced singers will be examined on whether their vocal and musical state of development is sufficient for graduation into the Concert Choir. This normally happens around reaching 13 years old, meaning that, due to the changes in a young person's inner life that generally occur around this time, a girl may decide to pursue other aims in life, leaving the Youth Choir without ever entering the Concert Choir.
